The project reaches its end with the publication of a Methodological Guide to drive other teachers and training professionals to conduct their own online courses on advanced and Traversal Digital Competences. The Curriculum can be downloaded from Open Science Foundation (OSF) and is available in five languages, Spanish, Dutch, Romanian, Lithuanian and Slovenian, as well as in international English.

The Methodological Guide collects the experience acquired by the consortium during the online Pilot Course that took place in the University of Málaga during the end of last year. Like the Curriculum, the Guide is highly transferable to other countries and adaptable to changes in needs over time, which implies a high degree of innovation.

The Guide is composed of 8 main sections that go from the definition of its specific curriculum to the implementation of the course and the monitorization of the students’ progress and their continuous and final evaluation. Adapting it to different contexts and audiences, selecting materials -both textual and multimedia- and how to deal with Virtual platforms are also interesting aspects covered by the Guide. Each section, plenty of images and diagrams to facilitate an easier understanding of the content, finishes with one or two infographics to drive you on how to put in practice a successful online course on Digital Competences.

On April 9th, the final face-to-face meeting of the European project FTDCHE – Fostering Digital Competences in Higher Education took place in the picturesque city of Koper, Slovenia. Nestled on the Adriatic coast, Koper boasts a charming historic center with Venetian roots and a significant port. Once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today it serves as a vibrant hub of cultural and academic activity.

The meeting was hosted by the University of Primorska and brought together representatives from all partner institutions: the University of Málaga (Spain, coordinator), the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (Romania), University Colleges Leuven-Limburg (Belgium), Šiauliai State University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania), and the Slovenian host institution. This final meeting marked the culmination of a fruitful and dynamic collaboration that has produced valuable tools to enhance digital teaching skills in higher education.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the educational platform Sollertia (sollertia.ftdche.eu), which now houses all the learning materials from the pilot course. These resources—freely accessible—include instructional videos, interactive content, and practical exercises aimed at strengthening the digital competences of university educators.

The project’s official curriculum was also presented, available on the Open Science Framework (osf.io/g5qwe), alongside updates on the upcoming Methodological Guide. This guide is being designed to support other educators and institutions in launching similar online training programs, with a focus on structured design, pedagogical quality, and practical implementation.

In addition to reviewing administrative tasks and future sustainability, partners unanimously praised the excellent coordination by the University of Málaga, the effective distribution of tasks and funding, and the quality of the project outputs. The project officially concludes on May 31st, 2025, yet its legacy will continue through future editions of the course and the open-access reuse of its resources.

Its School of Engineering and Computer Science hosted researchers from the University of Applied Sciences of Leuven-Limburg (Belgium), the University of Primorska (Slovenia), the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (Romania) and the University of Applied Sciences of Šiauliai (Lithuania). It is the second face-to-face meeting held by the members of the project, since FTDCHE began its journey last December.

The FTDCHE project focuses on the creation of an advanced platform for training in digital skills in higher education: Sollertia. On this occasion, partners discussed relevant aspects related to the dissemination of the project through its website and, especially, through the Sollertia Learning Management System, which already has a sample of content for each of the five courses it integrates. Their first lessons can be consulted without prior registration and provide the general outline that will be followed in the remaining 11 topics.

Likewise, the partners established control mechanisms over the quality of translations into the official languages of each member country in order to facilitate dissemination among students who do not master the English language. In this sense, Sollertia constitutes a platform completely integrated with each of the partners’ languages, where both the study contents and the evaluation and self-assessment tests are fully translated.

The possibilities of teaching an official course were also discussed from the academic-administrative perspectives of each partner. The final objective is to provide students with the possibility of receiving official accreditation of the digital competences taught through by Sollertia (equivalent to 10 ECTS). The initial proposal is to hold the course during the spring semester of 2025.

Finally, partners agreed to hold the next Transnational Project Meeting in Hasselt, Belgium, in April 2024 under the auspices of the University Colleges of Leuven-Limburg (UCLL).

The first Work Package (WP) of the FTDCHE consortium has already been concluded. The result of this WP is a Curriculum that includes five Teaching Guides, one for each DigComp competencies, and covers its 21 main areas. The Curriculum can be downloaded from Open Science Foundation (OSF) and is available in five languages, Spanish, Dutch, Romanian, Lithuanian and Slovenian, as well as in international English.

This curriculum addresses the needs of Higher Education teachers and other training professionals, and it is based on an analysis of the needs of the participating countries. Hence, interested educators can also find at OSF a brief report on the current state of Digital Competencies demands in Spain, Belgium, Romania, Lithuania and Slovenia from the point of view of SME and public administrations. These analyses have provided the curriculum a transversal perspective focused on multidisciplinary environments that also addresses the needs of those entities that want to take educational actions in the promotion of advanced Digital Skills.

The whole Curriculum is inspired by a Learning-Centred Syllabus (LCS) focused on the needs of the student and their learning process with special attention to obtaining a high level of academic progress. LCS maintains a permanent focus on two key points: proximity to the student’s profile and environment, and maximum interest in the topics addressed without falling into unnecessary complexities. In particular, the Teaching Guides will place special emphasis on learning outcomes, in line with the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

This is the first face-to-face meeting that the partners have held since FTDCHE began its journey in December, and has included representatives of the University of Málaga (Spain), the University of Applied Sciences of Leuven-Limburg (Belgium), the University of Primorska (Slovenia), the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (Romania) and the Šiauliai University of Applied Sciences ( Lithuania).

At the meeting, which was held in the ‘PRECIS’ building on the Romanian campus, the guidelines for the development of a curriculum on digital skills based on the European benchmark DigComp were outlined. Likewise, the tasks that will give rise to the teaching materials that are part of the project have been planned.

With a duration of 30 months, this Erasmus+ project integrates five European partners, leaders in the research and development of Information and Communication Technologies. There is a period of two and a half years for its development, and a financing of 250,000 euros, granted by the European Commission.

Fostering learning in digital skills through transversal and inclusive content is the objective of this initiative, which is committed to the internationalization of education.
